A practical workshop in hospitality, guest experience and the experience economy

TARGET GROUP


Designed for employees in the service industry, including hotels, restaurants, and cafés, this workshop will be conducted in English.

PURPOSE

To strengthen the visitor experience in the Faroe Islands by developing skills of those who interact directly with guests.

The workshops focus on turning everyday interactions into meaningful moments – creating personal, authentic and memorable guest experiences at every stage of the guest journey.

DATES & TIME

Two half-day workshops, from 12:30-16:30:

  • Wednesday, 21. October 2026
  • Tuesday, 3. November 2026

APPROACH

The workshops draw on principles from Hospitality Theory and the Experience Economy, with a strong focus on practical application.

Participants will learn to:

  • See the experience from the guest`s perspective
  • Translate hospitality principles into concrete, visible behaviours
  • Work with real-life situations from their own professional environment
  • Recognise and make the most of the moments that matter troughout the guest journey

WORKSHOP 1: SHARED UNDERSTANDING & PRACTICAL SKILLS

Purpose: To understand the guest experience and practise the behaviours that make a real difference

WORKSHOP 2: PRACTISE & EMBEDDING

Purpose: To turn new skills and insights into natural, everyday hospitality behaviours.

LEARNING APPROACH

The workshops are higly interactive and practice-oriented.

Participants will work with:

  • Active participation and hands-on exercises
  • Real situations from their own working environment
  • Short theoretical inputs followed by immediate practical application
  • Feedback, discussion and guided reflection

OUTCOMES

By the end of the workshops, participants will:

  • Understand their role in the overall guest journey and visitor experience
  • Be able to use simple, effective behaviours that create genuine personal connection
  • Feel more confident handling both positive and challenging guest interactions
  • Contribute to a more consistent, authentic and distinctly Faroese approach to hospitality
  • Have concrete actions they can bring directly into their everyday work

Participants will receive a certificate of participation upon completion of the programme.

Richard Mortensen

Cand.Merc.

Richard M. Mortensen has 18 years of teaching experience at Glasir, where he has taught subjects including Marketing and Customer Experience. He also has extensive international experience as a Management Consultant, specialising in leadership, strategy, and marketing. Throughout his career, Richard has held leadership positions at Føroya Tele, Elektron, and, most recently, MEST, where he has been part of the management team for the past 11 years.

The cource will be held at the Business College building (opposite of Glasir), Janusargøta 2, Tórshavn.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION

The course will start at 12.30 in the red Business College building, room 771. Afternoon coffee and cake will be served at approximatly 14.30.
